Thursday Thought - Battles

It's so hard to pick and choose your battles.

It doesn't matter which setting you're in... work, home, kids, relationships, family, friends, politics, religion... everything!

When you're young(er), you lack maturity.  Yes, we all think we are very mature and ready to take on a situation, but the reality is, one day you're going to look back and think, was it worth it?  Did it make a difference in my life?  Am I a better person for fighting that battle?  Was the fight for me, or for someone else?  Only life experience will really make you mature enough...

You can apply this to any situation.  You can even agree with someone on a topic and still have a battle with them (strange concept, but true).

So, how do you pick which battles to fight and which to just let go and accept that a difference exists that you simply have to accept?

You have to exam your ethics.  Prioritize.  You have to consider how your stand will effect others.  Is someone getting hurt?  Maybe you should speak up.  Is it just that you have a difference of opinions?  Maybe you should just accept it.  Is it because you don't agree with how to handle a situation?  Try someone else's approach - you may be surprised by the outcome.  And more recently for me... Is it really worth it not to give her a rice cake in the morning because it's an afternoon snack which results in a very upset two year old?  Pick. And. Choose.

The point is, don't let someone, or something, effect you so much that you walk away feeling like you lost a friend, relationship, or something really important to you.  Or that results in a headache or a bruised sense of self worth.  Will the world keep turning?  I'm guessing yes.  Stand up for what you believe, speak your peace, and move on with life.  Sometimes it's just not worth it, so hold your head up high and walk away.

  1. IT's so true. I tell my husband this ALL the freaking time. He is constantly up Styles' butt about anything and everything from what he's wearing, to the way he talks, to the things that he plays with, to general (valid) behavioral stuff. It's extremely frustrating for me and I want to hit someone. It's a lesson that I learned early on with Styles but because Kyle is Styles' step-parent, he has yet to "Get it". I hope it happens sooner rather than later!
